Your information, clearly explained

Privacy
Policy.

Rivistry is designed to make community river observations useful without exposing more personal information than necessary.

Effective August 13, 2026

At a glance

Your email and precise private location are not displayed publicly.AI identifications are suggestions. You control publication choices and can delete eligible uploads.
01

Information you choose to provide

Rivistry may collect information you submit when you use community and account features, including:

  • Photos and the descriptions, river, category, date, and location details attached to them.
  • Your display name, email address, and profile image when you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Rivers you save, uploads connected to your account, review decisions, and privacy preferences.
02

Location privacy

You control whether a general location is displayed with a community observation. Exact or sensitive locations are kept private by default and should not be included in captions or visible signs within a photo.

Public gallery entries may identify a river and a broad area even when a precise location is withheld.

03

AI-assisted image analysis

When you request an identification, Rivistry sends the submitted image and relevant observation details to an AI service for analysis. The result is a suggestion—not a verified scientific identification or safety determination.

Submitted observations may also be reviewed by a Rivistry moderator before they appear publicly.

04

How information is used

Information is used to operate Rivistry, authenticate accounts, save favorite rivers, analyze and review observations, organize river galleries, investigate misuse, and improve the service.

Rivistry does not sell personal information or use community photos for advertising.

05

When information is shared

Approved observations may be published in a river gallery with the public details you selected. Account email addresses and precise private locations are not displayed publicly.

Information may be processed by service providers needed to run Rivistry, such as hosting, authentication, data storage, and AI-analysis providers. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect the service and its users.

06

Cookies and local storage

Rivistry may use cookies or similar browser storage to maintain a signed-in session, remember saved rivers, preserve privacy choices, and keep the site functioning. Rivistry does not currently use third-party advertising cookies.

07

Retention, access, and deletion

Information is kept only as long as reasonably needed to operate the service, maintain the community record, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations. You can remove eligible uploads through your account or the private deletion control supplied after an anonymous upload.

You may also stop using Google sign-in and revoke Rivistry’s access from your Google account settings. Revoking sign-in does not automatically delete previously published observations.

08

Children’s privacy

Rivistry is intended for a general audience and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted personal information should use the available deletion controls or contact the site owner.

09

Policy updates

This policy may change as Rivistry adds features or service providers. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date.
